The article explores the possibility of genetically modifying embryos in the context of assisted reproductive interventions. The central debate is whether such interventions are therapeutic or whether they alter the personal identity of the unborn child. This disagreement stems from different views of personal identity. The author argues that the current debate, particularly on genome editing, is predominantly influenced by the 'biological continuity' view (animalism), and suggests that adopting an alternative perspective focusing on psychological continuity could lead to different moral conclusions regarding both genetic editing and responsible parenthood in the era of reproductive technologies.it
