Abstract:
The activities of Thesis were aimed at the development of eco-friendly technologies for Integrated Pest Management of Thaumetopoea pityocampa in urban and semi-urban environments.
The following research activities were performed.
Evaluation of the effectiveness of trunk barrier traps on the capture of the wintering migrant larvae. Results showed a poor efficacy of the adhesive barriers and a high capture capacity of the commercial and prototype barrier traps (easier and quicker to install).
Management of the infestation using trunk barrier trap. Effectiveness of this method was evaluated in 2015-2016 in relation to the associated male adult population and number of winter nests on trees. Significantly fewer adult moths and larval nests were recorded after the application of the trunk barrier traps. Results showed the potential of the Ecopiège trap as a control method.
Pheromone traps comparison in order to capture the adult moths. From the pheromone traps tested, a specific prototype trap was found superior than the commercial and other prototype devices.
Management of infestation using mating disruption (MD) technique. In a recreational area, two plots of one hectare were identified. There was a plot that was treated with MD and another plot (as control) that was left untreated. During two years of the experiments the numbers of the adults at the pheromone-baited traps and nests with larvae were considerably lower in the treated plot, in comparison with the control plot.

Gestione dell’infestazione tramite confusione sessuale.
