Abstract
In recent years, an increasing consciousness about work safety has more and more involved the scientific research on this topic. The agroforestry sector shows the occurrence of professional diseases and accidents, requiring the necessity of studies and devoted researches. Among health risk factors we have to include the dust, that is generated during different agroforestry operations. The small size and the characteristics of the airborne particulate, can causea serious harm to workers, to bystanders and to the environment. During the three-year of doctoral activity, I have carried out the sampling and the analysis of dusts coming from the three following scenarios: 1) abrasion dust coming from dressed maize seed; 2) soil dust generatedduring hazel-nuts mechanical harvesting; 3) wood dust from the utilization of poplar wood as energy source. In the first two projects, an evaluation of innovative devices for dust reduction was also carried out. The experiments have been mainly focused on the contribution of machinery to dust production and dissemination. The results can contribute to a better knowledge of risk factors associated to airborne particulate in agroforestry activity.
