Abstract

This paper aims to analyse the role of Stobaeus’ Anthologion as a re- source for the constitutio textus of Isocrates’ speeches. After some con- siderations on the concept of indirect tradition as it was defined by Gior- gio Pasquali in his 1932 contribution to the Enciclopedia Italiana, some much debated passages from the openings of Isocrates’ To Nicocles and Evagoras are taken into account. In all these cases, a thorough examina- tion of the indirect tradition is critical in establishing the text.
