Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate aquatic environments in the area
district of Rieti, in Lazio region. At the beginning, this study has been
oriented on start up of environmental certification with standard ISO
14001 of Cittaducale municipality; then, from territory analysis emerged
the immense importance of aquatic environments, lotic and lentic, present
in the area and little studied.
The study of these environments has been conducted in the conservation
of water and in their sustainable administration as required by
Framework Water Directive 60/2000/CE.
Research in the field and in the laboratory allowed also to provide an
innovative contribution to the outstanding issues related to the
improvement of methods of investigation based on the study of benthic
macroinvertebrates, biological indicators of environmental quality.
In particular, the population of macroinvertebrates showed the almost
total absence of TIC (Total Inorganic Carbon) and a very close
correlation between TOC (Total Organic Carbon) and dry weight.
This contribution is also harbinger of future developments useful both to
the review of analytical methods of eco-biological type, underway in our
Country, and to the opportunity to quantify the capacity of water courses
regarding to biodegradable organic pollution.
