Abstract
This study examines the Digital Product Passport (DPP) as a system for circular value chains. Circularity depends on information sharing, but asymmetries between producers and recyclers hinder material recovery. The EU's DPP provides data on product composition, lifecycle, and sustainability to
address this. Its relevance is rising, yet its impact on value-chain sustainability is underexplored. Using Organisational Information Processing Theory, we simulate how DPP features and adoption affect silicon recovery from photovoltaic waste, considering technical, economic, environmental, and social outcomes. Results show DPP enhances material recovery and sustainability but also creates technical and economic challenges. Different DPP setups result in trade-offs and non-linear effects, revealing the complex role of inter-organisational IS and offering insights for policymakers and practitioners.
