Abstract
The main threat that modern beekeeping is forced to face in a cyclical and frequent way is represented by the deadly mite Varroa destructor1, the mite (VM) responsible for varroatosis of bees2. Monitoring timely the VM infestation level can help beekeepers in managing honey bee (Apis mellifera) hives. With the advent of artificial intelligence-based technologies, the procedure can be faster and more accurate. In this field, the Bee Varroa Scanner (BeeVS, Apisfero APS) emerges as a diagnostic tool for automated counting of VMs, using high resolution cameras for data acquisition and cloud-based artificial intelligence for data analysis on VM natural fall on adhesive sheets installed under the screened floor the hive . The purpose of this work is to verify the reliability and practicality of use of the BeeVS system
