Abstract
Analyzing archaeological data and historical cartography is fundamental for understanding geological risk phenomena. Among the possible examples of the application of this type of investigation in which geological data are combined with interdisciplinary data, the village of Ninfa in the southern Pontine area is a good example case for the analysis of these phenomena. The study area is characterized by several peculiarities both from the perspective of demographical and settlement dynamics and the complex geomorphological and hydrological setting, which determined the presence of swamps in the area. Furthermore, the particular conformation of the Ninfa area presumably results from a sinkhole phenomenon, an element of geological risk widespread throughout the Pontine area. © 2023 Societa Geologica Italiana.
