Abstract
The paper describes, in its first part, the historical and geographical diffusion of mediaeval veterinary medicine tratises in the XIVth and XVth century Italy. Specific attention is focused on the milueu og their production and reception inside or around Italian courts; the similarities and the relationships between artifacts originating from different Romance areas; the characteristics of their transmission and the physical description of the most important manuscripts, form richly illuminated ones, dedicated to important commissioners, ro plainer copies for pracltical ues. The second part of the presentation is centered on a variety of philological and editorial issues dealing with the census of hippiatric treatises; the reconcstruction of the relationship between manuscripts containing the same works and the identification of these sources; the critical editions (with particular reference to a XIVth century pseudo-Aristotelian hippiatric treaty); the language analysis of each manuscript and the description of its iconographical and paratextual apparatus.
