Abstract
The author tries to draw a sketch of the linguistic situation of Poland in XV-XVI centuries: Latin was widely in use as a vehicular language, what's not surprising in such a multiethnic state. The author adheres to the opinion according to which Latin was no obstacle to the development of vernacular literature, but on the contrary fostered it, what is confirmed by the flourishing of Polish literature during the so-called "Golden Century".
