Abstract
Lead, tin and antimony based yellow pigments: color and matter of cultural heritage: Yellow pigments based on lead, tin and antimony, gone down in history as giallolino, giallolino fino, giallolino di Fiandra, giallolino di fornace, giallolino di vetro ecc., are currently resolved in the name of: lead and tin yellow type I and type II, lead antimonate or Naples yellow, lead tin and antimony yellow. The transition from the ancient to the most withdrawing division into four types of yellow pigments, has been made possible thanks to the contribution made by studies of historical, literary, artistic and scientific fields that have unravelled since 1868. Although it's been over a century since the interest is accrued for these artificial pigments, at present many questions remain unresolved mainly related to the reasons which have led to different chemical compounds starting from the same reagents, but also problems arising from their use in alternating polychrome artifacts from the fourteenth century. The present work is configured with the aim of contributing to the study of yellow based on lead, tin and antimony in works of art through the examination of the sources, the reproduction of recipes and precepts identified in them and their identification on the works art.
