Abstract
Since its beginnings, the history of Rome is the history of a “melting pot” city, where the presence of immigrants is relevant. We
found documents and analysis about that presence in the writings of classicists, medievalists or in the pages of Middle Ages and Modern Times historians, but nobody tried to synthesize this information. This
essay proposes a new approach, dealing with a long run perspective of Rome as a city of migrants.
