Abstract
A test rig for the measurement of power absorption by devices, such as transmission and air conditioning system, has been developed with the aim of contributing to the knowledge of the
performances of agricultural tractors. It has been used in experimental tests on a tracked tractor and on a wheeled tractor, providing the data that made possible: to validate the test rig; to quantify the transmission power requests referring to the peripheral velocity of the propulsion organs and to the characteristic curve of power; to quantify the air conditioning system request for the wheeled tractor; to estimate the residual power that can be utilised in other functions. Further studies, aimed at investigating the power absorptions under operative conditions, such as self-dislocation, traction and power take off etc., will complete the picture of the dynamicenergetic balance of the tractor, integrating the information provided by the classical approval tests.
