Abstract
The desertification shows the most critical effects in the transition ecosystems (i.e. the arid regions that move towards the tempered areas). The aim of the thesis is to identify the condition under witch it is possible to stabilize the desert steppe and in witch way inhabitants can alter the fragile equilibrium with their mismanagement. The desert steppe and the desert are two equilibrium conditions of the transition ecosystem in the Alashan region (Inner Mongolia, China). The thesis shows a local dynamical model that has been developed in order to study the transition phenomena that are present in the Alashan region. The dynamical system uses 6 state variables to simulate the transition ecosystem and it is coupled with a decisional model that simulates the human choice of management. The dynamical solutions of the model identify the main factors that limit the development and the conservation of the region understudy. It allows one to find possible hints for a better management of the area.
