Abstract
Martin Schoock's various attempts to criticise Descartes focus on the latter's plan to refute traditional logic and to adopt a different method. Schoock also attacked Descartes' criterion of evidence and his physics, which were not based on the Aristotelian model of syllogistic proof. The same assumptions also underlie his accusation of magic, which ought perhaps to be considered in the light of the ongoing polemical debates between Schoock's teacher, Gijsbert Voetius, and Robert Fludd.
