Abstract
Social inclusion has gained interest and attention in recent years across various spheres. For example, the European Green Deal from 2020 aims for climate neutrality by 2050 and promotes a more inclusive and healthy society. Accessibility and inclusion are two concepts that come hand in hand. EU defines accessibility as “a precondition to ensure the full and equal participation in society of people with disabilities.” However, inclusion goes beyond this, aiming to “enable every citizen, notably the most disadvantaged, to fully participate in society, including having a job.” Regarding building design, inclusion is often confused by concepts of accessibility and universal design, which primarily focus on eliminating physical and visual barriers for people with reduced mobility and impaired vision. Even with these concepts, other susceptible/vulnerable populations are often overlooked.
