Abstract
Nell’ultimo decennio, l’incremento degli episodi di criminalità e devianza giovanile, e le complesse ricadute sociali, psicologiche e relazionali derivanti dallo stato detentivo e i conseguenti processi di reinserimento sociale, sono diventati temi sempre più centrali nel dibattito pubblico, e questo anche in ragione dell’immaginario che serie tv cult come Mare fuori hanno contribuito a costruire. Attraverso strumenti di analisi qualitativa (media content analysis e interviste in profondità), lo studio indaga il rapporto tra le rappresentazioni on-screen offerte da Mare fuori e il vissuto quotidiano di alcuni testimoni privilegiati all’interno degli istituti penali minorili italiani, mettendo in luce come, al di là delle fisiologiche differenze tra finzione e realtà, il reinserimento sociale dei giovani detenuti rappresenti una sfida tanto impegnativa quanto affascinante per chi lavora all’interno di questi contesti.

Over the last decade, public debate has often focused on youth crime and deviance phenomena, detecting both the social, psychological and relational effects of prison and the related processes of social reintegration. This is also due to the imagery provided by cultural products such as the cult serial drama The Sea Beyond. Combining different qualitative research tools (media content analysis and in-depth interviews), the study investigates the relationship between on-screen representations and daily experiences of Italian youth penal institutions, highlighting how, beyond the physiological differences between fiction and reality, the social reintegration of young prisoners represents both a demanding and fascinating challenge for professionals such as psychologist, trainers, social workers, police officers.
