Abstract
The Chaconne by J.S. Bach is a masterpiece of the violin literature and gives many possibilities of interpretation. It's interesting to analyse how the great violinists Menhuin, Milstein and Szeryng put themselves in front of the work, giving three different versions.
It's possible to note how Menhuin is very respectful of the original text and how his sound is calm in the monodic zone and more vehement in the polifonic.
The Milstein Chaconne is certainly the most virtuoso, passionate and stylistically free, but often distant from the Bach manuscript because it's characterized by very rapid "vibratoes" and by some "portamentoes" out style. His sound and his musicianship are wonderful.
My favourite is the performance of Szeryng for his ability in conciliate the expressivness and the stylistic property. Szeryng studies deeply the Bach's text and during his performance it's possible to note how the violinist is instrumentally capable and musically intelligent.
