Abstract
This paper examines the problems involved in compiling a rhyme index for the
Sicilian poetry, focusing on the interplay between language, metrics, and manuscript tradition. Particular attention is given to the definition of rhyme endings and the treatment of irregularities, especially in relation to the phenomenon of Tuscanization and the distinctive features of Sicilian phonology. The study shows how rhyme can serve as a key site for reconstructing linguistic traits and highlights the tension between preserving manuscript evidence and ensuring coherence across the corpus.
