Abstract
The aim of the research was to evaluate, in a north-central Italy environment, the behaviour of new agricultural thermal films for covering greenhouse, still at the prototype stage, on tomato crops (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.).
Two different two-year trials were carried out. In the first one, an innovative third generation thermal film containing polyamide was compared with a control standard mixed with additives LDPE film. In the second research line, two coextruded LDPE/EVA direct or diffuse light thermal films were compared. Moreover, each type of the above-mentioned film was stabilized with three different formulations of light stabilizing additives, for a total of six combinations film- light stabilizing.
The parameters taken into account in the research focused on the vegetative growth and quantitative and qualitative production. The large amount of collected data allowed to obtain a complete picture of the productive potential of the new plastic laminates, providing a useful aid for the choice of the most suitable cover for the specific environment.
