Abstract
Sailing VOS Project is a feasibility study regarding the Eco-BluBox instrumental system that is
a, low cost, multiparametric improvement, of T-FLAP prototype (A temperature and fluorescence
Launchable Probe), a technological developments occurred during MFSTEP Project (2003-2006). The
main aim is to adapt the instrumental, to different oceanographic measure platforms, such as sailing
pleasure craft
Efficient tools to deal a control of the climate variability are those who manage to give a hight
synopticity, such as satellites measures. They give a wide variation of the phenomenon, repeated over
time; but, they need of continue calibration via in situ real time data; the same it can be said for
ecological models.
Being able to provide many real-time data in homogeneous mode give the opportunity to bridge the gap
that exists between reality and prediction.
The Sailing VOS feasibility study seeks to identify the instrument oceanographic component for better
define the executive step of the project. It's paying attention to the following requirement mission:
● Low cost;
● Small size;
● Adaptability to multiple platform of measure existing;
● Construction of a data base continuously updated;
● Obtaining measurements of sea surface.
The feature of operational oceanography will be able to improve the connection between
Observation Systems and Ocean/Ecological models.
The purpose of this work is to give a new impetus in oceanographic studies; dedicated to
physical and biological variability of sea surface; starting from the concept of great relevance, dictated
by Economic Scientific needs, to know in deeper mode the global climate balance of the earth.
