Abstract
The problem of dust raised by vacuum and pick up harvesters during hazel harvesting is examined. Experimental tests, in different harvest yards of Viterbo area, have show an average value of respirable dust concentration of 3,24 mg/m3 by vacuum self –propelled harvesters. The average value of crystalline free silica in dusts was about 0,16 mg/m3 (against a TLW-TWA of 0,025 mg/m3). Experimental tests carried out in a closed place, like hazel mills, have supplied medium values within the limits or to the maximum limit (2,82 mg/m3, whereas the limit TLV-TWA is 3 mg/m3) in the choice room (where the without shell product is selected manually). For room manufacturing (where finished products are baled staked) in same cases the values was under the limit (with an average values of 1,23 mg/m3), in other cases beyond the limit (whit an average values of 4,9 mg/m3). The results of surveys by sound-level meter, in hazel mills, whit exposition times declared by concern have allowed to calculate the personal exposition levels LEX,8h dB(A) according to D. Lgs. 195/06. The noise exposition, in same hazel mills was under 80 dB(A), in some cases between 80 and 85 dB(A), in a single case was advanced to 85 dB(A) (LEX,8h 86,2 dB(A)).
