Abstract
Within the apostrophe that Ovid addresses to the character of Narcissus in met. III 432-436, transmitted in this form by all extant manuscripts of the poem, v. 433, which although so far has not raised any particular perplexity among scholars, seems instead to present difficulties that affect both its form and meaning and its relation to the context. The paper proposes a close analysis of the verse and its context and formulates the hypothesis that it has been interpolated.
