Abstract
The research examines the experience of early Italian feminism from a transnational perspective. A large part of the Western feminist texts and periodicals testify to a global view on the condition of women, in the Italian case especially in the Near East. Through the analysis of published and unpublished documents, the research aims to investigate the representations of a ‘national femininity’ conveyed, by reflected effect, by the Italian and Egyptian women’s circles at the beginning of the 20th century. In the age the idea of nation became globalized, under the expansion of European colonial rule, female and feminist reflection also in fact contributed to the development of national identities, with an intertwining of gazes between “Western” and “Eastern” women.
