Abstract:

In the present work the energy recovery of residual biomass from hazelnut pruning has been studied, in order to enhance the local resources according to the strong local hazelnut production. As a consequence, the use of a fixed bed Imbert prototype reactor for the gasification of biomass, obtained after drying and subsequent shredding of hazelnut pruning, has been investigated. The results are in good agreement with literature data in terms of syngas energy properties. In more detail, experiments have shown that the percentage by volume of carbon monoxide and hydrogen varies from 14% to 17% and from 13% to a value slightly lower than 17%, respectively, while the average methane content is less than 2% by volume. The lower heating value of syngas ranges from 3,85 MJ/Nm3 to 4,46 MJ/Nm3.
