Evocación) que tienen como protagonista principal a Elisa Lynch, la amante irlandesa de Francisco Solano López, nuestra ponencia propone un acercamiento histórico-bibliográfico al tema irresuelto, dudoso y fascinante de la progresiva manipulación de la biografía de esta mujer. Dicha manipulación, realizada al compás con los cambios políticos y con el paso del tiempo, es manifiesta incluso en algunos indicios paratextuales, nimios en aparencia pero indispensables puntos de partida para emprender cualquier tipo de estudio sistemático sobre el argumento. De hecho, tales elementos son indicativos, en algunos casos, del propósito del autor de adaptar la obra a la situación política existente al momento de su publicación; en otros, de problemas de puro marketing, como puede notarse en la presencia, por ejemplo, de títulos impactantes, eligidos evidentemente por su intrínseco poder evocador, a fin de despertar el interés inmediato del potencial lector. Description: My paper dwells on the different editions of two well known novels dealing with Elisa Lynch (Woman on horseback, The biografy of Francisco López and Eliza Lynch - Madame Lynch. Evocación), the Irish lover of Francisco Solano López. I shall concentrate on the problem of Elisa Lynch's fascinating biographical renderings which still remain of uncertain attribution; through my historical and bibliographical approach I hope to show all the mechanisms which have progressively manipulated her biography. This intervention was due to changes in time and the political situation and is visible through certain elements of the metatext that I consider crucial for my study. As a matter of fact, these elements seem to show that the author at one point wanted to adapt the novel to the existing political situation at the moment of publication, while at others he wanted simply to satisfy a market oriented readership, as is shown by the use of highly captivating titles.
